About the Artist

Welcome to Jim Caffrey Images. Jim has been a photographer for thirty-six years, and has spent the past thirty years living in New Mexico. His fine-art-nature photography is unique in its composition and color palette. Practically all of his work, including his Black & White photography, has been captured in the Southwest where the light and the landscape combine to create a magical experience.

Most of Jim's work portrays everyday elements which, through his vision, are made to seem unique. He calls these pieces "Intimate Landscapes." Jim invites you to view his work and learn to see the world in a new way.

Artist's Statement

Photography is a way for me to gain a better understanding of the world around me. When I focus on a subject, the form, the structure, and the relationships between them become more evident. When I release the shutter, the truth of that particular moment is captured. The light changes, and with it the mood of the scene.

My love of photography stems from it's ability to challenge me creatively, while, at the same time, stimulating my technical side. Even when I am not making images, I am fascinated by the way light can evoke different emotions: the serenity of the soft light of evening, the power of the hard, angular light of mid-day. The ability to record these fleeting moments gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

Photography is also a way for me to become more intimate with my subject. I spend a great deal of time exploring the wonders the natural world has to offer, while learning more about our connection to, and dependence on the earth and all the living things that inhabit it.

It is my hope that anyone who sees my work will be encouraged to look a little more closely at the world around them, to question the wisdom of the wholesale destruction of the biosphere in return for some short term economic gain, and to, perhaps, find themselves wondering if there might be a better way.
